Engineering Closed-Loop Neuroplasticity

Restoring coherent sensorimotor dialogue to recover movement function and resolve neuropathic pain following neuromotor impairment.

100% Mission-Focused

Welcome to the online home of NEXR Foundation CLG. We are an Irish non-profit neurotech organisation - no shareholders, no exit strategy, no profit extraction. Commercial success serves only one purpose: reinvesting in improved outcomes for people with neuromotor impairments.

These types of impairments (acquired, congenital, degenerative) can interrupt the conversation between the brain and the body. Grounded in established neuroplasticity science, NEXR builds the non-invasive, closed-loop technologies that restore that conversation, accelerating functional recovery where it matters most.

One mission with a singular objective - create the conditions in which the nervous system can learn again, and then bring that solution to as many people as possible, in the right way, the right place, and at the lowest possible cost.

Reconnecting Intention with Movement

NEXR is developing a non-invasive neurotechnology platform combining brain-computer interface, neuromuscular sensing, immersive computing and precisely timed sensory feedback

Where we begin

NEXR's initial focus is on spinal cord injury - testing whether precisely timed closed-loop neurofeedback will support functional recovery and the modulation of neuropathic pain.

The first stage, currently underway, is a Minimum Viable Demonstrator (MVD) programme designed to move the platform from engineering architecture toward measurable scientific evidence.

However, that’s just the beginning. We believe that our solution is also applicable to many other neuromotor conditions such as Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Parkinson’s Disease, and Multiple Sclerosis and we have a rolling development pathway in place to test and develop this.

Built across disciplines

NEXR is being developed with an international network of researchers, clinicians, engineers and institutions including:
- University College Dublin
- Bath Institute for the Augmented Human
- The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis
- MIT
- Harvard Spaulding
- Carnegie Mellon University.

Our platform is collaboratively designed alongside global domain leaders who actively anchor our clinical trials, signal processing protocols, and engineering roadmap.

Fidelity as Biology

NEXR has built a dedicated internal capability around high-fidelity visual and spatial-audio environments - treating presence, embodiment and sensory congruence as variables that can be engineered and tested.

Our work brings together rendering realism, ultra-low latency, temporal smoothness, spatial audio and precise sensorimotor congruence inside the closed loop. The aim is not simply to make an immersive environment feel more convincing, it’s to make the brain more likely to accept the feedback as its own.

World-class science.
An Irish Mission.
An exceptional team.

Built in Ireland - a country which has always punched above its weight in science and medicine - NEXR aims to redefine neurorehabilitation on a global scale.
